Ozarka Helps Celebrate Arkansas Arbor Day

Arkansas Arbor Day was celebrated by the Melbourne Tree Board on the afternoon of Monday, March 15th at the Melbourne City Hall. The Master Garden Club planted three trees which were provided by the Arkansas Forestry Commission.

Melbourne Mayor, Mike Cone welcomed those in attendance and introduced the Tree Board which consists of Cone, Melbourne city employees, Donnie Gulley and Bridget McSpadden, Izard County Extension Agent, Carroll Prewett, Ozarka College Grounds Supervisor, Dave Rush, Ozarka College Director of Advancement, Karla Rush, and Ozarka College Director of Planning and Institutional Research, Joan Stirling.arborday10

Following these introductions, Mayor Cone declared March 15th Arbor Day in Melbourne and then Karla Rush spoke about reducing ones carbon footprint through recycling and planting trees.

The Melbourne Tree Board sponsored this celebration as part of Melbourne being a Tree City USA community. This is the fifth year that Melbourne has participated in Tree City USA. The Arkansas Forestry Commission provided free trees to those who attended the event.
