Health, Safety & Wellness Fair is this Thursday

Published on October 22, 2014

Ozarka College will host a huge Health, Safety and Wellness Fair, with more than 40 vendors, on October 23, 2014.  You will not want to miss this event; it is open to the public and free of charge!   This Health, Safety and Wellness fair will take place at the John E. Miller Education Complex, at Ozarka College in Melbourne, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

"The Ozarka LPN Program is very excited about hosting our first Health, Safety, and Wellness Fair, said Valerie West, LPN Instructor.  "PTK will be holding a food drive for the Manna House and ICC athletics will be grilling burgers and hot dogs with all the fixings.   So, come join us, take advantage of the screenings and free education, donate some blood to the Red Cross, and have a burger or hotdog for lunch.   It promises to be an amazing day!

Those attending the Health, Safety and Wellness Fair should expect to gain a wealth of information about awareness, detection, and prevention of common health complications. Attendees can also take part in free screenings, learn about services available to them, see emergency response vehicles up close and personal, climb a rock wall, and so much more.   The American Red Cross blood mobile will be on location for anyone who wishes to donate blood.  Additionally, there will be plenty for the kids to explore and learn as well.

Students from area schools are also making plans to participate in the Health, Safety and Wellness Fair.   Students who are either a junior or senior in high school will have the opportunity to explore potential career paths, as well as programs and degrees they can obtain from Ozarka College.   Participating schools will also bring students in the first grade to receive free health screenings, have their fingerprints made, and to learn what to do in the case of an emergency.   They will get to see an ambulance, an Air Evac helicopter, and walk through Children's Hospital smoke house.

The list of confirmed vendors is growing, but to date includes the following: Dr. Adam Gray (hypertension education), Ozarka College Nursing students (cholesterol screenings and education, program information, hand washing, staph infections, glow lotion/light, and bone marrow registry), American Cancer Society (detection and prevention), Ozarka College Culinary Arts students (safe food prep, storage and handling), Community Home Health, Delta Medical Supply, Dr. Tompkins (chiropractic screenings), Safe Passage Women's Shelter, Kidspiration (physical therapy), Izard County Health Department, Air Evac, Arora, Horseshoe Bend Health and Medical (breast cancer detection and awareness), American Red Cross (blood mobile), WRMC Melbourne Medical Clinic (screenings), Melbourne Fire Department (Children's Hospital smoke house), Calico Rock EMS, Izard County Sheriff's Department (fingerprinting), North Arkansas Co-Op (Stamp Out Smoking program), Pioneer Nursing Home, Ozarka College Criminal Justice (emergency preparedness), Ozarka College PTK (food drive), Ozarka College Fitness Center (open house and general information), PHAT Body FIT Camp (fitness, aerobics, and nutrition), Walmart Vision Center (eye glass fittings, repairs, and education on eye diseases), Fulton County Hospital (diabetes teaching), Mark's Pharmacy, White River Area Agency of Aging, Corner Drug Store, ICC Athletics (grilling burgers and hotdogs), Natasha Sharp (message therapy), Ozarka College Allied Health (CPR demonstrations and program information), Ozarka College Student Government Association, New Beginnings Pregnancy Crisis Center, UAMS: AR Saves program (stroke prevention and detection), Spring River Home Health, Crown Point Nursing and Rehabilitation, a variety of insurance companies, and Gideon's International.
