LPN Students Donate to Food Bank

Published on November 12, 2014

On October 21, 2014, Ozarka College LPN students hosted a bake sale fundraiser and did free health screenings at Ozarka College - Ash Flat.   The bake sale raised $188.70 and all funds were donated to the Christian Community Food Bank to supply food for their backpack program. The backpack program supplies food for children to take home on Fridays, so they will have meals to eat over the weekend.

In addition to checking blood pressure, temperatures, pulse rates, oxygen saturation, respirations, and measuring BMI (Body Mass Indexes) free of charge, the LPN students set a goal of registering 25 people for the national bone marrow registry.   With the help of the community, they more than doubled their goal with 55 people registering.

"This opportunity is being made available to all campuses over the next two weeks, and we have a college wide goal of 200", said Cheryl Ekenes, Ozarka College LPN Instructor.   "We had folks not only from Ozarka, but from the Ash Flat fire department, Sharp county government employees, and the sheriff's office here registering as well. We also had a member of the Morriston fire department commit to having a tri-county wide registry drive in the next two weeks, so those numbers will go toward our goal."

The Ozarka College LPN students appreciate everyone who supported their efforts and look forward to doing more in the future to support those in need.
