Ozarka College-Ash Flat hosted Community Health Fair

Published on May 13, 2014

The Practical Nursing Class at Ozarka College - Ash Flat hosted a community health fair on April 30, 2014. Approximately 300 people attended the fair, including Ozarka College students, area elementary students, and other community members.

Highland Elementary brought 120 first grade students for their end of school field trip. They went through the safety house, ambulance, fire trucks, were finger printed, received hearing exams, vision exams, and received a demonstration of chiropractic care. One student was heard shouting with enthusiasm, "College is cool" as he left the health fair.

The health fair was a success with adults, as well. 26 ladies received mammograms, 9 of them were first time clients. The American Red Cross collected 27 units of blood, the Fulton County Relay for Life team raised over $300, and the LPN students collected several non-perishable food items and raised an additional $66 for Mission of Hope.

The Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) students worked diligently to organize and implement this event, which was well noted by the vendors and others who attended.  They were pleased with the students' commitment and the community's support and hope to participate in future Ozarka College Community Health Fairs.  Special thank you to all of our vendors who participated in this years health fair: Ist Choice Healthcare, Above & Beyond Home Care, Air Evac, All About Smiles Family Dental, American Red Cross, Ash Flat Fire Department, Baxter Regional Health Mobile Mammography Unit, Community Home Health, Curves, Inc., Davis Drug Store, Eaglecrest Nursing & Rehab, Econo Med Pharmacy, Families, Inc., First Step Drug Treatment, Fore Family Practice, Fulton County Relay for Life, Health Resources of Arkansas, Lane Therapeutic Massage, Legacy Hospice, NADC-Workforce Investment Act, Network of Community Options (NCO), New Beginnings Pregnancy Help Center, Ozark EMS Ambulance Service, Ozarka College, Reppell Diabetes Learning Center, Safe Passage Women's Shelter, Sharp County Health Department, Sharp County Sheriff's Department, Sharp County Tobacco Prevention Program, Southern Eye Associates, Spring River Ambulance Service, Superior Senior Care, Taylor Hearing & Balance Center, Tri-County Medical Supply, West Plains Fire Department, White River Area Agency on Aging, and WRMC Medical Complex.
