Director of Physical Plant

Ozarka College in Melbourne is seeking qualified applicants for a Director of Physical Plant. The Director of Physical Plant, acting under the direction of the Vice President of Administration, is responsible for the supervision and oversight of the Maintenance Department and for overseeing and participating in the maintenance and operation of Ozarka College facilities and equipment.


Position Specific:


  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and structural requirements used in the construction and maintenance of buildings and grounds.
  • Develops and maintains preventative maintenance schedules for facilities and equipment and participates in overall planning by providing information and advice concerning equipment status, maintenance replacement, or purchasing needs.
  • Performs skilled and semi-skilled tasks.
  • Reports maintenance and repairs needed in maintaining facilities.
  • Ability to plan, assign, and coordinate work activities, and monitor the performance of co-workers and /or subordinates.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports including vehicle utilization, equipment history, and materials purchased.
  • Responsible for maintaining, ordering fuel, scheduling and reporting on college vehicle fleet.
  • Responsible for reporting all mileage and fuel usage of college fleet to State Agency Vehicle Application [SAVA].
  • Responsible for directing daily activities, supervising, evaluating and interviewing all maintenance personnel.
  • Responsible for ensuring that appropriate janitorial, maintenance, and paper supplies inventory is on-hand.
  • Responsible for conducting facilities audit.
  • Responsible for preparation and clean-up for special events.
  • Work directly with the Vice-President of Administration on projects and attend meetings as requested or required.
  • Responsible for the Physical Plant annual operation budget.  
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 Minimum Qualifications:


  • Education equivalent to a high school diploma.
  • Five years’ experience in a related field.
  • Two years’ supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the responsibilities and skill required to fulfill the position responsibilities.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and use good organizational skills to take initiative and coordinate daily workload.
  • Proven interpersonal skills both written and verbal to promote understanding, respect for others, and clear articulation of the College mission.
  • Commitment to personal integrity in all working relationships with others.
  • Ability to operate effectively with minimal supervision.
