Early Childhood Development Program Coordinator

Ozarka College seeks applicants for a full-time Early Childhood Education Program Coordinator to begin January 2017. The position is a 9-month full time faculty position requiring a minimum 15 credit hours of instruction per semester with opportunities for additional course assignments.


The successful applicant will be expected to provide instruction in a full range of freshman and sophomore education courses including, but not limited to Foundations of Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Healthy Safe Learning Environment, and Early Childhood Practicum. This position will include rotational teaching assignments at the Melbourne, Ash Flat, Mountain View, and Mammoth Spring sites as well as day, evening, and online instruction. Other duties include: participation in division activities, institutional committee assignments, advising, assessment, and appropriate professional development activities relevant for the position.


This position will include the development and implementation of a recruitment and retention plan for the Early Childhood Development Program; maintaining contacts with cooperating public schools and early childhood centers; serving as a faculty advisor to Ozarka College students; working cooperatively with local early childhood education programs to enhance curriculum development and employment opportunities for students; and working collaboratively with the Teacher Education Program Coordinator. This position will be expected to collaborate with full-time and part-time faculty in the development, review, assessment, and maintenance of the Early Childhood Development program.


Minimum Qualifications: 


  • Master's of Science in Education Degree in early childhood education or closely related field from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Must hold a current Arkansas Department of Education elementary, mid-level, or early childhood license.
  • Demonstrated interest and commitment to teacher education. 
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Ability and willingness to work effectively with local early childhood and K-12 education institutions.
  • An understanding of the advantages and challenges for developing an early childhood education program in a rural community college.
  • Ability to design goals and assess learning outcomes.

Desirable/Preferred Qualifications: 


  • A minimum of 3 years successful pre K-12 teaching experience. 
  • Successful higher education instructional experience.
  • Demonstrated undergraduate advising experience in a two-year college setting.
  • Demonstrated course development for on ground and distance education delivery.
  • Successful teaching experience in a higher education setting.
