Criminal Justice Faculty/Program Coordinator

Ozarka College invites applications for the position of Criminal Justice Instructor/Program Coordinator for the Associate of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and Corrections for the fall semester of 2014. The position is a 9-month fulltime faculty position requiring a minimum 15 hours of instruction per semester with opportunities for additional course assignments. The instructor will perform in many different capacities, such as serving on faculty committee assignments and advising students. This dynamic individual should enjoy residing in a rural setting.


The Criminal Justice Instructor/Program Coordinator for the Corrections and Criminal Justice Program has overall responsibility for the Criminal Justice and Corrections Program and for teaching criminal justice and/or other classes as assigned. In addition, the Program Coordinator is responsible for recruiting students for the program, for counseling and advising within the program area, and maintaining positive relationships with local law enforcement officials. The instructor is responsible for the success of the teaching/learning process within the classroom and is responsible for working with four-year institutions to ensure the successful transfer of students. The Associate Vice President of Academics supervises this position.


Minimum Qualifications: 


  • Master's degree in Criminal Justice or a closely related field with 18 graduate credit hours in Criminal Justice
  • Demonstrated commitment to the community college philosophy
  • Demonstrated commitment to assisting students and faculty
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated effective leadership and team building skills
  • Demonstrated effective organization skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Teaching experience in Higher Education
  • Experience teaching with distance learning (internet-based) formats and methods
  • Experience in developing curriculum 

Responsibilities:


  • Teach 30 semester hours per academic year
  • Some weekend/evening teaching may be required
  • Develop and evaluate both course and program curriculum
  • Advisement of students and retention activities
  • Assessment of student learning
  • Serve on college committees
  • Participate in the selections of textbooks and materials
  • Maintain daily office hours
  • Participate in professional development activities and College functions
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President of Academics
