Guy and Joan Stirling donate $2,500 to Ozarka College capital campaign

Published on February 19, 2014

Guy and Joan Stirling of Violet Hill have committed $2,500 to the Ozarka College Student Services Center Capital Campaign.

"From the first semester I taught at Ozarka College in 1996, I was enthralled with the opportunities it offered to many," said Joan. "It is so gratifying to see hard-working students change their lives in such a positive way. Working in an environment where the employees put their hearts and souls into serving students in achieving their educational goals is so highly motivating. I have given Ozarka College the best I could through my work over the last eighteen years. This donation is just a small token of what my husband and I wish we could give to help Ozarka College move into the future."

Their contribution will pay to furnish an office in the Student Success Center in the Student Services Center on the Melbourne Campus.

Guy is a retired pharmacist and Joan is the vice president of institutional research and planning at Ozarka College.

"Joan Stirling has a long history of commitment to students at Ozarka College," said Dr. Richard Dawe, Ozarka College president. "From her time in the classroom; to her leadership in preparing the College for the Higher Learning Commission review; to her work as Vice President of Planning and Institutional Research, Joan is a tireless advocate for the advancement of our students. This contribution from Joan and her husband, Guy Stirling, is deeply appreciated and is another show of their passion for our hard working students!"

Ozarka College broke ground on Monday, Dec. 2, on the two-story 18,560 square-foot building that will house all student services, various individual and group study areas, community meeting rooms, a video conferencing center, additional banquet space for college and community use, and a state of the art culinary learning lab.

The "Students at the Center" capital campaign is a bold step to raise the quality of educational and student support services at Ozarka College to new heights. The campaign will help ensure student success and will enhance the campus to create a more community-centered learning environment.

Mike Watson of Ash Flat and Connie Moser of Calico Rock, both Foundation Board members, are serving as co-chairs of the capital campaign steering committee.

Donation levels range from $2,500 to furnish an office space up to $250,000 for building naming rights.

The Ozarka College Foundation, a non-profit organization, as well as the Ozarka College Board of Trustees, will ensure the funds are used for expressed purposes.

For more information about giving opportunities to the "Students at the Center" capital campaign, please contact Carol Langston, executive assistant to the president and development officer, at 870-368-2006 or carol.langston@ozarka.edu.

The Ozarka College Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization and all donations are tax deductible on itemized tax forms.
