Rohder earns Private Pilot License through Continuing Ed. Program

Published on September 2, 2016

Ms. Alexandra "Sasha " Rohder, is officially a pilot! Sasha is the first student to earn a pilot certificate as part of the continuing education program at Ozarka College.  Sasha was required to complete a knowledge test as well as a practical examination consisting of an extensive oral exam and demonstration flight with an FAA-approved Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE). On August 2, 2016, Sasha travelled to Searcy, AR and completed her practical examination earning her Private Pilot Certificate.

Ozarka College director of aviation and flight instructor, Nick Lenczycki commented, "We could not be more proud of Sasha.  She has worked hard and has been extremely diligent.  Becoming a pilot is not something that is just given; it is earned. "

Sasha began flying at the age of ten.  Having already completed a number of hours prior to training at Ozarka, Sasha's goal was to complete her certification before beginning college this fall.  According to Lenczycki, "This is a great example of how Ozarka College can help members of the community complete goals through the continuing education program. Sasha will receive college credit for the training completed with Ozarka College and begin one year ahead of her peers. "

In addition to becoming a pilot, Sasha enlisted in the Army National Guard on August 4, 2016 and began classes at the University of Central Missouri (UCM) on August 15, 2016.  She plans to continue training while enrolled at UCM with hopes of becoming a Blackhawk Helicopter Pilot.

Through the continuing education program, members of the community can complete their FAA Private Pilot Certificate or Instrument - Airplane Rating without enrolling in a degree.  Training can be conducted via Part 61 or via the College's Part 141 flight school.  For those individuals meeting certain criteria, Part 141 allows them to complete flight training with fewer flight hours and with less expense.
