Administrative Specialist III for Veteran Services

Ozarka College in Melbourne is seeking qualified applicants for the full time position of Administrative Specialist III for Veteran Service in the Student Services Department.  The Administrative Specialist III for Veteran Services, acting under the direction of the AVP of Student Services, will provide full-service support to all student veterans, spouses, or dependents including VA certification, financial aid, advising, and registration.  In addition to providing financial aid support to qualifying veterans, spouses, and dependents, the Administrative Specialist III for Veterans Services will also provide financial aid assistance to other Ozarka students when needed.  The Administrative Specialist III will serve the needs of students at all Ozarka College locations.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Perform duties as Certifying Officer for VA students, including certifying VA students for benefits through the VA portal and amending as needed, preparing and maintaining spreadsheets related to VA student information, and preparing letters relaying important information to VA students. 
  • Maintain complete VA files to required standard and subject to annual audits.
  • Provide full support to VA students including VA certification, financial aid, advising, and registration. 
  • Handle initial contact with students, families and other individuals who contact the financial aid office in person or by telephone.
  • Assist students in completion of financial aid applications, loan applications, etc.
  • Keep current on Federal and State guidelines for financial aid. 
  • Clerical duties (e.g., typing, filing, preparing correspondence).
  • Process transcript requests and prepare and submit official transcripts.
  • Collect documentation to verify all student applications selected for verification by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Post scholarships and loans to students’ SONIS accounts.
  • Assist students in understanding and successfully managing loan obligations by educating borrowers on available repayment and deferment options. 
  • Perform appropriate follow-up activities to assist borrowers, such as assistance with deferment and forbearance paperwork.
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities of an Ozarka College employee as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma plus three years of experience in specialized or a related field applicable to work performed, Associate’s Degree preferred. 
  • Demonstrated understanding of regulatory environment when administering federal/state programs. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the use of a computer and related software.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the community college philosophy.
  • Demonstrated commitment to assisting students and parents.
  • Demonstrated effective organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development.
  • Demonstrated ability to expedite work and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain student-friendly office.
