Ozarka Hosts Ribbon Cutting for New Skilled Trades Center

Published on April 20, 2026

Ozarka College's Melbourne campus celebrated the opening of its new Skilled Trades Center with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, April 17 at 11:00 a.m.

The new facility represents a significant investment in workforce development and hands-on education for the region. The Skilled Trades Center provides students with modern training spaces designed to prepare them for in-demand careers in construction, plumbing, HVAC, and related fields.

"The Skilled Trades Center is a major step forward for our region--expanding access to high-demand training while strengthening the workforce pipeline that supports our local economy," said Dr. Josh Wilson, Ozarka College President. "It's a direct reflection of what can be accomplished when the state, community, and Ozarka work together toward a common goal."

The project was made possible through a $1.6 million investment from the Arkansas Division of Higher Education's HIRED grant initiative, along with generous support from community partners and donors. Fred and Janet Lamb funded the Construction and Plumbing Lab, providing a state-of-the-art environment for students to develop practical, career-ready skills.

Additionally, G.H. Miller & Sons named the Skilled Trades classroom in memory of Kirk Miller, honoring his legacy and commitment to the community. Fred Lamb and James O. Miller both shared remarks during the ceremony, emphasizing the importance of workforce training and the impact this facility will have on future generations. Miller noted it was a meaningful honor to support the initiative in memory of his brother.

"The generosity of the Lamb and Miller families reflects the spirit of partnership that makes projects like this possible," Wilson added. "We are truly grateful for their investment in our students and community."

Following the ceremony, attendees were invited to meet faculty and staff, enjoy lunch, and tour the new facility.
