Surgical Technology Graduates Honored at Pinning Ceremony

Published on July 28, 2022

Six students in the Surgical Technology program at Ozarka College received their pins in an annual pinning ceremony held at 5:00 pm in the Lecture Hall of the Ozarka College Mountain View Campus.

During the ceremony, Dr. Chris Lorch, Provost at Ozarka College, informed the students of the tough road ahead but reassured them that their training at Ozarka College had prepared them for it.

Katie Wilson, Ozarka College Allied Health Division Chair, was incredibly proud of this year's pin recipients, "These students have worked hard to overcome the challenges they've faced during this program, " she said. "They have persevered and have proven that they have what it takes to overcome the obstacles they may face when they enter the workforce."

The six students who received their pins were: Mattie Avey, Albert Carvalho, Julia Cox, Fred Gentry, Sarah MeGee, and Jodie Sandoval.

The ceremony included a welcome address from Ozarka College Surgical Technology Instructor, Felicia Sisk; a keynote address from Ozarka College Provost, Dr. Chris Lorch; a reading from the Surgical Technology Class President, Fred Gentry; and the presentation of pins.

The purpose of the Ozarka College Surgical Technology program is to provide entry-level technical skills to students desiring to become Surgical Technologists. The program provides classroom, laboratory, and clinical training for students desiring employment as a qualified entry-level practitioner in the field of Surgical Technology and related areas.
