Ozarka College has selected Makayla Goins, of Mountain View, Arkansas as recipient of the Academic All-Star scholarship program. Upon completion of her Associate of Science degree in Agriculture at Ozarka, Goins plans to pursue a bachelor's degree beginning in Spring 2024.
The purpose of this program is to recognize the scholarly and service achievements of Arkansas' two-year college students. Academic All-Stars will be recognized in October at the Arkansas Community Colleges Awards ceremony in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Each two-year college with provide the All-Star with a $500 scholarship to complete his/her final semester at the two-year college. Traditionally, All-Star recipients also receive a full tuition scholarship from the Arkansas college or university of their choice to complete their four-year degree.
To be eligible, All-Star candidates are required to meet eligibility requirements such as being an Arkansas resident, enrolled in a public two-year college, expected to continue enrollment through at least Fall 2023, have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours toward her associate's degree and have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.25 or higher. Goins meets or exceeds all scholarship requirements. Applicants are also required to demonstrate involvement in campus and community activities. Goins is very involved in her community, volunteering regularly for community and campus events. Makayla has been named to the President's list for academic achievement and serves as an Ozarka Student Ambassador.
"Makayla's scholarly achievements and demonstrated leadership on campus and in her community set her apart, " said Zeda Wilkerson, Ozarka College vice president of student services. "We are very proud of Makayla and her commitment to serving others; and we expect only continued success as she transfers to pursue a bachelor's degree in Animal Science with hopes of a career with the USDA."
