English Portfolio Assessment --  All Composition One students at Ozarka College must submit a portfolio at the end of the semester. The portfolio must have a cover letter in which the student convinces a committee of readers that he or she has met each objective listed on the syllabus, citing examples of the student's own collected writings within the portfolio as proof.

The fulltime English faculty will make every effort to invite a variety of stakeholders to participate on the assessment committee:

  1. Strong attendance from each division ensures that we are educating for the writing needs of the entire college.
  2. Strong attendance from all levels of writing instruction ensures that we are educating for each level of need.
  3. Strong attendance from adjunct Composition instructors ensures that all instructors have an equal voice in establishing standards by which we will determine course consistency across different sections of the same course. The portfolio assessment method attempts to answer these questions:

a. Have the students met the course outcomes?                                                                                                                              b.  How can instructors assist students both to learn and to document learning?
