Community Outreach Specialist

Ozarka College is seeking applicants for the position of full-time Community Outreach Specialist for the Career Pathways Initiative (CPI) program for the Ash Flat campus.  This is a 10-month, grant-funded position that reports to the Director of Career Pathways.


The Community Outreach specialist should enjoy communicating with students and have a strong focus on inspiring student success and program completion.  The Community Outreach Specialist should be able to motivate students to do well, encourage trust and treat students with respect.  This position requires the ability to work with Career Pathways staff in a team-oriented environment, as well as, being able to work independently.


Primary Duties:


  • Enroll students in the Career Pathways program and serve as a case manager for the student
  • Collect student information and maintain confidentiality of student files
  • Respond promptly to student needs for services and assistance
  • Network and serve as a liaison between the CPI students and the local TEA case workers, DHS and other local social services agencies 
  • Manage challenging or emotional student situations
  • Provide academic advising, tutoring and homework assistance to students
  • Manage the textbook loan program
  • Provide student workshops as needed or assigned
  • Serve on committees as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

Assist in promoting systems whereby all learners are given the opportunity to accept the challenges and responsibilities for learning and growing as students and citizens.


Promote and help develop a College environment of respect, dignity, and cooperation where ideas, questioning, and the continued pursuit of self-development are valued as a means toward learning and growing.


Minimum Qualifications:


  •  Bachelor’s degree
  • Preference in the area of higher education, counseling, college student personnel, or social work
  • Demonstrate computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite programs: Excel and Word
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Demonstrative effective organizational and time management skills
  • Preference for knowledge of TEA, DHS, and Workforce Services programs
