SNAP employment & Training Case Worker

Ozarka College Adult Education in Melbourne is seeking qualified applicants for a part-time SNAP Employment & Training (E & T) Case Worker.  The SNAP E & T Case Worker works under the direction of the Director of Adult Education. The E & T Case Worker is responsible for providing comprehensive case management services, assessments, career counseling, working with all DHS offices in Fulton, Izard, and Stone Counties, attend mandatory training (within 12 months of hire date), maintain hard-copy client files (SNAP E & T intake, Adult Education intake, assessment records, case notes, employment plan, reimbursements, work experience, follow-up, and interest inventory—All DHS forms relating to clients). 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contacts/recruits program participants through telephone and personal meetings.
  • Provides skills assessment and basic skills assessments, to establish immediate objectives and long term goals.
  • Formulates individual employment development plan for each program participant using information gathered through formal assessments and in depth interviews.
  • Enters participants in a tailor-made program to elevate skill levels and help achieve self-sufficiency through pre-employment training, remedial skills training, Adult Basic Education, GED, technical training and/or college courses.
  • Coordinates placement and on the job training opportunities.
  • Determines and provides supportive services based on individual needs and area office budget.
  • Maintains effective case management by submitting timely reports, case notes, employment plan, follow-up and all other necessary paperwork.
  • Conducts regular one-on-one counseling sessions with participants to review goals, address problems and ensure progress is being made.
  • Conducts one-on-one career assistance providing participants with job seeking skills, personal awareness, motivation and self-esteem, goal setting, resume development, interview techniques and other activities as determined needed.
  • Conducts pre and post assessment utilizing the TABE 11/12 computerized assessment software.
  • Initiates and maintains linkages with area education facilities, Department of Human service agencies, and employers.
  • Represents Ozarka College Adult Education in a cordial, professional and businesslike manner and serves as OCAE’s representative to area associations, organizations and committees. This may include presentations.
  • Establishes partnerships with employers to identify present and future requirements, thus preparing participants for integration into the labor market.
  • Performs post-placement follow-up in accordance with Adult Education policy.
  • Enters client data into State data management system, maintains copies of all intakes.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Work effectively with colleagues for continued growth and quality at Ozarka College;
  • Serve on Ozarka College committees as assigned to assist in providing programs and services that develop and enhance students as members of the college community;
  • Travel routinely to Ozarka College satellite campuses and occasionally travel to area high schools for financial aid events.
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities of an Ozarka College employee as outlined in a timely and effective manner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Human Services, Education, or a related field;
  • Must possess a work ethic that encompasses a self-motivated attitude and willingness to work independently;
  • Ability to disseminate information orally and in writing;
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and compile data;
  • Ability to monitor student progress and activities

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Sufficient educational background to be able to demonstrate the ability to fulfill the responsibilities of this position with a minimum of a four-year degree.
  • Experience: One-year experience in social work, public relations, or related experience, preferably with career/employment counseling preferred. Experience working with SNAP clients is highly desirable.
  • Computer Skills Required: Must be proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and data management systems.
  • Ability to attend required training involving overnight stays.
  • License and Certificates: Access to reliable transportation, valid driver's license and minimum car insurance required by state law.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to occasionally lift and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Must possess the physical capabilities to perform the following: reaching, handling, talking, hearing, seeing, standing, walking, stooping, and bending.
