Accountant I

Ozarka College in Melbourne, Arkansas, seeks qualified applicants for the position of Accountant I.  This is a full time 12-month position reporting to the Executive Vice President of Finance.  

Position Specific:

• Provide guidance for general accounting, student accounts receivable, accounts payable, procurement and financial reporting.
• Process payables
• Payroll processing and payroll tax reporting
• Benefit processing and monthly reporting including retirement and unemployment
• Monitor internal controls, procedures, and compliance issues for grants and/or contracts.
• Year-end tax reporting
• Maintain the general ledgers on departmental operations, calculates and allocates funds for new and existing accounts or projects, and balance accounts.
• Prepares spreadsheets and database files, monitors purchasing procedures of departmental personnel, instructs new employees on purchasing and travel procedures.
• Process financial aid refunds.

Minimum Qualifications:

• The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma.
• Experience in payroll and/or accounting is preferred.
• Ability to analyze financial information and prepare reports.
• Ability to provide guidance and technical assistance to management, staff, and the general public regarding accounting operations.
• Ability to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of accounting systems and controls, identify problems, and devise corrective actions.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the use of a computer as it relates to specific position requirements.
• Demonstrated effective communication skills, both oral and written.
• Demonstrated effective organization skills.
