Skilled Trades Faculty

The Skilled Trades Faculty, acting under the direction of the Division Chair of Applied Science and Technology and the college Provost, will teach the Skilled Trades curriculum (basic construction, HVAC, electrical and plumbing skills) as part of the Skilled Trades certificate. The Skilled Trades Instructor will play a pivotal role in instruction of the Ozarka’s Technical Education offerings related to the construction trades. The ideal candidate should be able to teach in the areas of basic wiring, measurement, blueprint interpretation, assembly, and basic plumbing, and HVAC installation/maintenance.  The Skilled Trades faculty member will be responsible for providing high-quality instruction and maintaining a positive, safe learning environment for students that will prepare them for successful entry into the workplace. Additional responsibilities include course development, assessment, participation in campus committees and activities, student mentorship, and other duties as assigned.  The Skilled Trades Faculty is a nine-month position with a required teaching load of fifteen (15) credit hours as assigned per regular academic semester, and will primarily include teaching assignments at Ozarka’s technical lab in Mountain View, but may include assignments at other locations as needed.

Position Specific:

  • Develop course syllabi, teaching resources, related activities and provide instruction for assigned college-level courses, and other courses as necessary.
  • Demonstrate skill, knowledge, and abilities in teaching the Skilled Trades curriculum.
  • Make continuous efforts to advance the quality of instruction by collaborating with industry partners and fellow faculty members.
  • Develop and use a variety of teaching methods and materials to assist and mentor students who have differing educational and experiential backgrounds in meeting the course outcomes.
  • Evaluate students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course outcomes. Review, evaluate, recommend, and effectively use student learning materials.
  • Maintain appropriate professional relationships with students, colleagues, and community members.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of three years’ relevant experience in a trades related field.
  • Ability to teach basic skills in the construction trades.
  • Broad knowledge of technical skills, workplace safety and manufacturing processes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master electrician or plumbing license, HVAC license, or general contractor license
  • Previous teaching experience at the High School or College level in technical related programs.
