Project Coordinator of the Delta Understanding and Preventing Substance and Opioid Abuse in Rurality

(Delta UPSOAR) Grant

Ozarka College, in partnership with Winrock International and the UAMS Center for Distance Health, is seeking a program coordinator for a two-year project to deliver an opioid and substance abuse training, education, and awareness program in north-central and northeast Arkansas, a region that suffers high rates of opioid overdose deaths and risk factors.  The Project Coordinator of the Ozarka College Delta UPSOAR program will develop an opioid and substance abuse education curriculum and work with consortium members to deliver that curriculum to college employees and students, lay people within the service region, and others with an interest in this community service effort to reduce opioid and substance abuse fatalities and injuries. 

Ozarka College will deliver multiple educational seminars across the service area, with many of those incorporating simulation trainings. Larger events will be centered on the College’s campuses with other events taking place at hospitals, businesses, churches, and libraries within the service area. In addition, some presentations will be live-streamed, and interactive online modules will be made available to the public.

The Project Coordinator will work with grant consortium members and Ozarka instructional staff to develop and deliver these meaningful educational venues. The Project Coordinator will also be responsible for promoting these educational venues through various outreach efforts, such as newspapers, social media, and radio/TV service announcements. This is a grant funded position ending March 31, 2022.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Deadline for submitting applications will be Tuesday, August 24, 2021 or when an acceptable candidate has been selected.

Position Specific:

  • Plan, schedule, and deliver curriculum to community members in the five-county service area.
  • Maintain required reporting on project status and appropriation and use of funds.
  • Plan and work collaboratively with all personnel to ensure that the project’s objectives are being met and project activities are being completed within the designated timeline.
  • Collaborate with grant partners outside of the institution as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree from accredited College or University in nursing, social work, public health or relevant field. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Function independently and demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to operate computer programs and applications with high level of proficiency, including the Microsoft Office Suite and others commonly used in the educational setting.
  • Strong time management skills focusing on deadlines and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility to travel within service area and work outside of regular business hours as needed.
