Skilled Trades Faculty

Ozarka College seeks applicants for a full-time faculty member to teach the Skilled Trades curriculum (basic manufacturing skills) as part of the Precision Machining Technology (PMT) curriculum, Welding curriculum, and other technical education fields.  Skilled Trades is an introductory course that prepares students for careers in manufacturing.  The Skilled Trades Instructor, acting under the direction of the Division Chair of Applied Science and Technology and the college Provost, will play a pivotal role in instruction of the Ozarka’s Technical Education offerings related to manufacturing.  The ideal candidate should be able to teach in the areas of basic math, communications, measurement, blueprint interpretation, assembly, and basic mechatronics.  The Skilled Trades Instructor position is a full time 9-month faculty appointment and will include teaching assignments at Ozarka’s three technical labs in Ash Flat, Melbourne, and Mountain View.  This position will begin August 2022.  The Skilled Trades faculty member will be responsible for providing high-quality instruction and maintaining a positive, safe learning environment for students that will prepare them for successful entry into the workplace. Additional responsibilities include course development, assessment, participation in campus committees and activities, student mentorship, and other duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications:

  • An earned Associate’s degree and a minimum of three years’ relevant experience in a related field.
  • Ability to teach basic mathematics, communications, measurement, blueprints, assembly, and basic mechatronics.
  • Broad knowledge of technical skills, workplace safety and manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communications skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An earned Bachelors’ Degree from a regionally-accredited institution plus two years’ of related experience in a related field.
  • Previous teaching experience at the High School or College level in technical related programs.

Job Description Summary:

  • Demonstrate skill, knowledge, and abilities in teaching the Skilled Trades curriculum.
  • Teach assigned courses at a variety of times and locations in response to institutional need.  Locations may include all Ozarka College locations, High School locations, and local work places.
  • Make continuous efforts to advance the quality of instruction.
  • Develop and use a variety of teaching methods and materials to assist and mentor students who have differing educational and experiential backgrounds in meeting the course outcomes.
  • Evaluate students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course outcomes. Review, evaluate, recommend, and effectively use student learning materials.
  • Maintain appropriate professional relationships with students, colleagues, and community members.
